Record-Breaker

Breaking a world record can involve a lifetime of training, practice and dedication… which is all well and good if you are doing something worthwhile. But chances are that wouldn’t win you a DAFTAS Award… where as doing things like this might.

Speedy Lawn-Mowers Cut Records - 2010 has been a busy year for lawnmower speed records - yes that’s a real thing. In May, Brit Don Wales raced to 87mph in a grass cutter but then in October Bobby Cleveland beat that by speeding to 96mph.

Biggest Ever Coke And Mentos Fountain - In what has to be the stickiest world record ever set, 2,433 people in Mexico City simultaneously dropped Mentos into bottles of cola. The resulting soda eruptions were enough to scoop the title for the largest number of simultaneously erupting Mentos geysers.

36 Miles Of Keepy-Uppy - Football trickster Dan Magness set a new world record by playing “keepy-uppy” as he walked 30 miles across London. The football freestyler didn’t let the ball touch the ground as he made his way around Premiership football stadiums.

World’s Shortest Man For Shortest Period Of Time - Edward Nino Hernandez became the world’s shortest man in 2010, but that isn’t why he’s on this list. That’s because when he lost the title a month later (when Khagendra Magar turned 18 and claimed the title) he gained the record for being the person to hold the shortest man record, for the shortest period of time.

Longest Ever Grand Slam Tennis Match - The record for the longest ever Grand Slam tennis match was broken at Wimbledon when Isner and Mahut matched each other. After 11 hours and 5 minutes of play over three days, the fifth set finished 70–68 (183 games).

Elastic Mouthed Man Stretches Record - Francisco Domingo Joaquim left people slack-jawed when he won a place in the Guinness World Records book by stretching his mouth to a massive 6.69-inch-long. His mouth is so rubbery he can fit an entire Coke can in it… sideways.
